PRESUMPTIVE SURVEY (Type 1)
This survey locates any suspected Asbestos Containing Materials in the building and assesses the risk. No samples are taken; therefore the risk is based on the presumption of materials containing asbestos (over 3000 building products are known to contain asbestos fibres).
STANDARD SAMPLING , IDENTIFICATION AND ASSESSMENT (Type 2)
The purpose of this survey is to locate, carryout a risk assessment of all materials containing asbestos. Samples are taken from each suspected material, which are then analysed under a UKAS (The United Kingdom Accreditation Service) accreditation laboratory to confirm if the material contains asbestos and what type.
FULL ACCESS SAMPLING AND IDENTIFICATION SURVEY (pre-demolition/major refurbishment surveys, Type 3)
This type of survey is used to locate and describe, as far as reasonably practicable, all ACMs, Asbestos Containing Materials, in the building and may involve destructive inspection, as necessary, to gain access to all areas, including those that may be difficult to reach. A full sampling programme is undertaken to identify possible ACMs and estimates of the volume and surface area of ACMs made. The survey is designed to be used as a basis for tendering the removal of ACMs from the building prior to demolition or major refurbishment so the survey does not assess the condition of the asbestos, other than to note areas of damage or where additional asbestos debris may be expected to be present.
CROCIDOLITE - More commonly known as BLUE asbestos
AMOSITE - More commonly known as BROWN asbestos
CHRYSOTILE - More commonly known as WHITE asbestos.
ASBESTOS MANAGEMENT PLAN
Do we leave asbestos in place or repair or remove?
The management plan will state what areas, if any, need asbestos sealed, encapsulated or, as a last resort removed.
We will assist in the preparation of your asbestos register, assessment and management plan.
We will advise the best practices to implement to alert staff, contractors and visitors of the presence of asbestos.
RISK ASSESSMENT
Using the algorithms set by HSE (The Health and Safety Executives) Methods for the Determination of Hazardous Substances, the result of the survey will be assessed. It will asses the risk of asbestos fibres being released into the air from the materials in those areas. It will take into account the materials condition and how likely they are to be damaged or distributed.
ASBESTOS AWARENESS TRAINING
For organisations that wish to provide education and awareness to employees who may come into contact with asbestos through their work.
Asbestos has always been an emotive issue with genuine concerns for all employees, staff and contractors. The NO WIN NO FEE band of adverts seen in the red top newspapers only lend fuel to these issues.
We provide Asbestos Awareness Training that offers a simple understanding of all issues involved in the potential dangers of working with or nearby asbestos.
The training is also very useful where you employees work off site. We can include the setting up and the implementation of company procedures to protect staff that work off site, should they become aware of potential asbestos on the external site of work.
ASBESTOS REGISTER
The legislation is not meant to secure the often expensive removal of all asbestos. The Health and Safety Executive has stated that removal is often more dangerous and the least favored option in managing asbestos.
Your register will identify all materials containing asbestos. The register should then be made available to all staff and outside contractors working on the building.
The register will be updated and amended following the agreed re-inspection of any asbestos that is being managed.
URGENT ASBESTOS SAMPLING
Urgent call out to sample suspicious materials is available, including out of hours and weekends. Samples are analysed through the UKAS (The United Kingdom Accreditation Service) accreditation scheme and a verbal report is normally available within 24 hours. Ensuring the minimal disruption to projects and building refurbishment
